Three Generations, One Vision: Inside Javgur Winery

The story of Javgur Winery stretches back more than 35 years, rooted in the passion and vision of Gheorghe Scutaru, a man who believed that great wines could be created at home, by respecting tradition while daring to innovate.

What began as a small family initiative has grown into one of Moldova’s respected family-run wineries, known for authenticity, balance, and character. From the very beginning, Gheorghe’s ambition was clear and deeply personal: to craft wines that reflect the soul of Moldovan viticulture, without losing sight of modern quality standards and evolving consumer expectations.

A True Family Winery

Javgur Winery is, at its core, a family story. Over time, Gheorghe’s children, Vasile Scutaru and Aliona Nazaria, joined the journey, transforming the winery into a true multigenerational enterprise.

Vasile Scutaru is closely involved in the production process, ensuring that each wine expresses terroir, grape variety, and craftsmanship. Aliona Nazaria oversees distributor relations and bottling, playing a key role in bringing Javgur wines to both local and international markets.

Together with their parents and spouses, the family works side by side, sharing responsibilities and decisions. While Gheorghe remains the core oenologist and guiding force, every family member contributes ideas, opinions, and perspectives. This balance between experience and the younger generation’s international outlook has become one of Javgur Winery’s greatest strengths.

Tradition Meets Progress

Running a family business is never easy, but at Javgur, collaboration has proven to be a powerful advantage. Over the years, the winery has evolved without losing its identity, staying faithful to tradition while adapting to modern wine culture.

A key milestone came in 2000, when the first modern vineyards were planted, marking a new phase of growth. Another decisive step followed in 2018, when the winery underwent a complete re-equipment, integrating modern wine technology with traditional know-how.

This investment significantly enhanced precision, consistency, and quality, allowing Javgur Winery to produce wines that are more refined, expressive, and competitive on international markets.

Vineyards and Grape Diversity

Today, Javgur Winery manages 94 hectares of vineyards, cultivated with both international and indigenous grape varieties. This diversity is a defining feature of the estate and allows the winery to create a broad and expressive portfolio.

From aromatic whites like Viorica and Traminer to structured reds such as Fetească Neagră, Saperavi, and Cabernet Sauvignon, each grape variety plays a role in shaping Javgur’s identity. The result is a portfolio that speaks to different palates while remaining unmistakably Moldovan in spirit.

A Winery with a Clear Vision

More than three decades after its foundation, Javgur Winery stands as a symbol of family continuity, respect for terroir, and thoughtful modernization. Each bottle reflects not only grapes and craftsmanship, but also the values of a family that believes wine is about connection—between generations, land, and people.
