Domäne Wachau — A Flagship of Austrian Wine Domäne Wachau is one of Austria’s most renowned wine estates, firmly established on both the national and international wine map.

Rooted in centuries of winemaking tradition, it represents the essence of the Wachau Valley — where history, landscape, and craftsmanship converge to create wines of exceptional quality and character.

Domäne Wachau Today

Today, Domäne Wachau stands as one of the leading wineries in Austria — a true flagship of Austrian wine. It combines deep historical roots with a modern vision, showcasing what Wachau wines mean in a contemporary, global context: precision, terroir expression, and longevity.

A Cooperative of Excellence

Domäne Wachau is a cooperative of around 250 vintner families, united by a shared commitment to quality and sustainable viticulture. This collective knowledge, passed down through generations, forms the backbone of the estate’s consistency and diversity.

Iconic Vineyards

The estate farms approximately 440 hectares of vineyards, accounting for nearly one-third of the Wachau’s total vineyard area. Around 30% of these vineyards lie on steep, terraced hillsides, some of the most challenging yet prestigious sites in Europe. This extraordinary landscape earned Domäne Wachau recognition among the World’s Best Vineyards in 2020 and 2023.

Varieties & Terroir

The vineyard surface is dominated by Grüner Veltliner (70%), followed by Riesling (20%) — the two signature grapes of the Wachau. The remaining area is planted with select white varieties such as Neuburger, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gelber Muskateller, alongside a small proportion of Blauer Zweigelt (1%). Each variety reflects the unique soils, altitude, and microclimates of the Danube Valley.
